Message from the District Office
Mike Dawson, Assistant Superintendent

Common Core State Standards are the new blueprints for states and districts to meet the challenge of raising learning expectations and preparing our K-12 students for college and career readiness.   Missouri, along with the forty-eight other states, have elected to endorse the Common Core State Standards for implementation for the 2014-15 academic year.  Adopting the new standards ensures consistent expectations regardless of a student’s zip code. They prepare students with knowledge and skills that they will need to succeed in college, their career, and provides a clear instructional focus for students, teachers, and parents.

Students Excel at Monett Middle School
Dr. Apostol, MMS Principal

There are many ways that we celebrate student excellence at Monett Middle School. Students are selected by their teachers and recognized at Student of the Quarter Assemblies. Students on the all A and A-B honor roll are also recognized at these celebrations. Student athletes demonstrating teamwork and strong work ethic are recognized during our pep assemblies for playing to their potential. Band and choir students exhibit excellence through their performances in front of their peers, just like the assembly held in December. These are ways that demonstrate excellence at a public level; however, student excellence is seen even in the individual things that students accomplish.

Monett R-1 School Security
Officer Jastal, School Resource Officer

"Safety and security don't just happen; they are the result of collective consensus and public investment. We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear." - Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa

After the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, parents, community members, and teachers have discussed the safety procedures of their local schools.  Monett R-1 School district has a number of safety measures in place such as school safety plans, regular drills, surveillance systems, and school messenger to send automated communication updates to the public.  In addition, through the joint effort with the City of Monett, Monett R-1 also has a school resource officer (SRO) on staff to serve and protect our students.
