Message from the District Office
Brad Hanson, Superintendent

This week (February 4th-8th) is National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).  During this week, we take time to focus our attention on the unique contribution our school counselors provide within our school district to assist students at all levels of development. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and to plan for success in the future.

MIS Student set SMART Goals
Peg Bryan, MIS Principal

MIS students are being deliberate in their desire to increase their learning.  One new sixth grade student who moved in during second quarter found himself unprepared for the rigorous curriculum at MIS.  His math teacher told him that she was going to pull him into her RTI class so that she could work with him on division and other skills he was lacking.  He was very upset (almost angry) that he could not divide-that he had never learned this skill.  This student is now celebrating that he can now divide with great success.  He is very proud of his accomplishment.  One day when he and his mother were in the store and he saw his math teacher, he started telling his mother all about RTI and how he had learned how to divide and as a result, how to use divisibility rules, determine prime factorization of numbers, determine the greatest common factor, etc. all because he learned during RTI how to divide.
