Message from the District Office

Brad Hanson, Superintendent

Last month the Monett R-1 Board of Education gave their official “thumbs up” to the Monett Middle School faculty and administration to move forward with their own version of a 1:1 learning initiative beginning next fall. I am excited for our middle school teachers as they commit to this endeavor that will truly transform the manner in which they are able to provide daily instruction, but I am even more excited for the tremendous learning opportunities that await our 7th and 8th grade students. Once again, Monett R-1 will be one of the first in our area to move into a 1:1 learning environment for students of this age level.

Monett Intermediate School Math Team Rocks!
Peg Bryan, MIS Principal

On Saturday morning, March 9th, when many students were sleeping in, fourteen Monett “Mathletes” and one coach were up and going to the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) regional competition held at Cassville Intermediate School. Students have been working after school each week practicing their “advanced” math skills.  The top ten students in Concepts and in Problem Solving are recognized at each grade level.

Monett R-1 School Safety
Officer Jay Jastal, School Resource Officer

On Wednesday, March 13th, law enforcement officers from the Monett Police Department and the Barry and Lawrence County Sheriff's Departments were searching for an armed suspect in Monett. Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, the decision was made to “lock-down” the schools to prevent the suspect from seeking refuge inside the school buildings. The suspect was located and taken into custody without injury to innocent people.

The emergency responders and school administrators of our community make the safety of our children a top priority. They are at times required to make tough and unpopular decisions to ensure the safety of our children and citizens.
