        Common Core State Standards are the new blueprints for states and districts to meet the challenges of raising learning expectations and preparing our K-12 students for college and career-readiness. In the past, each state has been given the authority to design their own learning outcomes and their own accountability tools. Missouri implemented grade level and course level expectations outlining key learning standards and used the MAP/EOC tests to measure student progress. This mixed approach by each state resulted in adopting different standards, administering different exams, and reporting varying results.

Monett Elementary School Celebrates

          Monett Elementary has been busy celebrating lately! During the first week of March, we celebrated National Breakfast Week. In keeping with our “Everyday Heroes” theme for the year, local “everyday heroes” visited our cafeteria and had breakfast with our students. We had heroes from the JROTC, Monett Fire and Police Departments, and also local paramedics. Thank you to all of our Everyday Heroes who helped support our breakfast program!

After clocks were moved forward to Daylight Saving Time recently, I heard a few people talking about how that one hour change disrupted their sleep cycle. Sleep is very important for good health, and unfortunately, many Americans miss too much of it. Teenagers especially need adequate sleep due to their rapid growth and hormonal changes. The National Sleep Foundation states teenagers should have  8 1/2 to 9 1/2 hours of sleep nightly.
