Brad Hanson, Superintendent

Welcome back to the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year! It was great to get around to each campus on Tuesday morning to see students and teachers with smiles on their faces, ready to get back into learning mode. Our theme for this year is “Better and Different.” You may ask, “What does this mean for the Monett R-1 School District?” Let me explain:

Our district mission and vision has been “Student Focused…Future Driven” for the past several years. I explained to our 300+ faculty and staff members during our opening meeting that, in my mind, there are no more important goals in education than to keep our focus on “what is best for students” and to “keep moving forward in our efforts for constant improvement.” I have tried to keep each of these principles at the forefront of my practice during my 28 years in education, and they have not misled me at any point!

Peg Bryan, Principal

MIS Open House was a success with over 260 families represented.  We thank all our parents for coming.  The theme at MIS this year is "Dream Big."  We want to encourage students to start thinking about their futures and to dream about the possibilities if they will start to prepare now for the training they will need after high school.  We also want students to think about the possibilities for their learning this year.  We know they will be excited to watch their progress through the setting of personal learning SMART goals.

Many people ask, “What does a student laptop program look like at the middle school grades? Is it different than the high school?”   While some things are the same as the high school, consideration was definitely made for thinking through some of the differences for 7th and 8th graders.
