This Week's Building Level and Departmental Update

Monett Middle School

Dr. Apsotol, Principal

Monett Middle School students and staff celebrated the beginning of the school year significantly different than other middle schools. After our welcome assembly with students, the 1:World learning initiative placed MacBook Airs in the hands of every middle school student. There are very few districts that have placed technology in the hands of every student and even less at the middle school level. A big “thank you” goes to our superintendent and our school board for giving the middle school the “go ahead” to pursue this initiative for the 2013-14 school year.

Monett High School
David Steward, Principal

Monett High School is off to a great start to the 2013-14 school year.  Our theme this year is "MHS Has S.W.A.G. - Students with a Goal."  The Student Senate officers have encouraged students to set goals for the school year and then to work hard to reach those goals.  The first week at MHS was a little different than previous years.  The faculty and staff worked hard to capitalize on the students' excitement as they returned to school.  Instead of having students sit and listen to the teacher discuss class rules, the class syllabus, etc., teachers designed activities and projects that would do two things.

Scott Regional Technology Center
David Miller, Director

Scott Regional Technology Center welcomes you to the 2013-14 school year. We are ready for another school year and the opportunity to invest in the lives of our students. Our mission is to “prepare students for an ever-changing world.” We have been working hard preparing a curriculum that will prepare students for whatever they face in their future. The week of August 12th we welcomed approximately 530 students from Monett and 13 other surrounding school districts to our shared time center. Scott Tech offers two sessions for those students. The morning session is from 8:50 to 11:20, and the afternoon session is from 12:00 to 2:30. Fourteen different programs are offered to our students in both sessions.

Monett R-1 School Safety
Office Jastal, School Resource Officer

As we start a new school year, I feel that it is important to remind students, parents, and drivers to be vigilant in making our roadways safe for students. Our federal, state, and local governments and school systems go to great lengths to ensure the safety our students and faculty while they are at school.  As parents and drivers, we sometimes fail to be as diligent protecting our children while they travel to and from school.
