        The rise in childhood obesity and associated health conditions have become a significant concern in the United States. Locally our childhood obesity rates among 5th graders have remained steady over the past ten years. The Cardiac Kids program began in Monett schools during the 2003-2004 school year with an overweight and obesity rate of 50% in our 10-year-olds. Since that time, the obesity rates have ranged between 32-50%.

        MHS Welcomes New Counselor, Science Teacher

        Monett High School is pleased to announce that Mrs. Kara Tinklepaugh will transition from the classroom to become one of the high school counselors on November 4th, 2013.  Mrs. Tinklepaugh has been teaching physical sScience at MHS since 2009 and spent four years at MES prior to her time at the high school.  While she has been teaching, she has been working on her master's degree in guidance and counseling.  She will graduate from Missouri State University with her master's in December.  Mrs. Tinklepaugh will join Mrs. Princess Fox in providing guidance services to the student body at MHS.

“¡Si, Se Puede!”
 
     September 26th marked a significant day for some of Monett’s Middle School and High School students. Forty-two students bilingual in English and Spanish traveled to Missouri State University to attend STEP, or Student Transition Education Program. STEP is a one-day conference geared toward helping students understand the steps it takes to gain admission to post-secondary education.
