Brad Hanson, Superintendent

This past week we have been reminded of the distinct possibility of winter weather that often disrupts our school calendar.
I thought it might be helpful for you to understand what is considered when making a decision whether to cancel school on days when there is frozen precipitation on the ground.
On days with frozen precipitation, school superintendents typically begin their day driving the school district roads around
4:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. In addition, the National Weather Service frequently hosts conference calls with superintendents in our area prior to 4:30 a.m. to provide the latest outlook for weather and road conditions for the upcoming day. Superintendents in our area communicate with each other during these snowy/icy mornings to share what is going on within their respective school districts and to assist each other in making these sometimes very difficult decisions.

MHS Explores New Schedule Option

Imagine a school where students are empowered to take ownership of their learning, where students' schedules are different every day of the week, where classes meet anywhere from 25 minutes to 100 minutes, and where students can meet with teachers on a one-on-one basis at virtually anytime throughout the day. Try to picture a school where no bells signal the end of each class, a place where students determine how to spend built-in independent study time to best meet their educational needs. That is exactly the type of schedule MHS is exploring for the 2014-15 school year and beyond.

Monett Intermediate School Counseling Services
Deb Williams, Counselor

MIS students make school counseling a true joy!  It is such FUN walking into classrooms and finding students both excited and welcoming! Beyond the classroom, students visit with me individually...sometimes that involves some hard work and difficult work, but even that results in some achieved goals and positive feelings.  Sometimes that individual time is just for regular conversation and games (during recess time). Students who want to see me usually just write me a note and slip it in my mailbox in the entrance hallway.
