As I write this, we have moved into the month of January and the beginning of a new year. I hope that the holiday season was an enjoyable one for you and afforded you some enjoyable times with family and friends.  It is quite certain the kids enjoyed the holiday break, and I heard more than a few of them cheering on the weather as the inches of snow and days off from classwork accumulated.   Hopefully the long break was enough to satisfy their leisurely desires, and they are now eager to return to class with their friends, teachers, and schoolwork. In fact, many people in our school system and the community are eager for 2014 because of many exciting projects that should take off this year.

This Week's Building Level and Departmental Updates

Monett Central Park Elementary
Annette Cozort, Principal

Brrr….. Winter is hanging on with intensity at Central Park so we decided to make the best of it and have a friendly class competition! Each class and/or teacher was given materials to create a unique and fun “snowperson.”   The snow creations were then displayed on tables at the entry. Students and staff voted on their favorites and the winners were announced! Congratulations to Miss Jen Caddell, Mr. Josh Carter, Mrs. Kourtney Brown, and Miss Kathryn Barnum for being selected as the favorites!

Monett R-1 Health Services
Carole Hamm, RN, Lead Nurse

The Health Services team for the Monett R-1 school district works behind the scenes to keep students healthy, safe, and ready for learning. Along with making sure students are adequately immunized against potentially serious infectious diseases, the staff, consisting of a registered nurse (RN), two licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and a health clerk, provides health screenings throughout the school year.
The Monett Elementary School nurse screens the hearing and vision of preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students yearly and as requested by teachers and the Monett R-1 Special Services Department. Parents are notified in writing or by phone if screenings indicate that further evaluation is needed.
