Summer School?   With so much snow this winter, it’s hard to imagine that summer is just around the corner.  I’m excited to share with you a new summer learning opportunity. Traditionally, summer school is offered Monday-Friday in the month of June with exciting activities, engaging lessons, field trips, and fun; however, due to summer sport camps, swim lessons, and travel plans, many families cannot commit to this type of structured summer learning.
In addition to traditional summer school, Monett R-1 will be offering “blended” summer school for students entering 1st through 6th grade. Blended summer school allows students to meet with
a teacher once a week and complete assignments independently throughout the week.

This Week's Building Level and Departmental Updates

Monett Intermediate School
Peg Bryan, Principal

Monett Intermediate School began implementing Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support several years ago.  We have noticed a significant decline in office referrals since implementing SW-PBS practices.  We have worked hard to focus our attention on the things that students are doing right and rewarding or acknowledging those actions.  In order to help students (and others) recognize how many positive interactions students have at school with adults and with students, we provide a signature card, card holder, and lanyard for each child.

Why is My Child in a “Co-Taught” Classroom?

Your child is enrolled in a classroom with two teachers and they call it “co-teaching.” Does this mean he/she is struggling and/or the pace will be slower? Is this something they only do at one building or a certain grade level or subject at Monett? No, these are just some of the myths about co-taught classes.

In fact, at Monett R-1 there are some co-taught classes from kindergarten through grade twelve. They are often comprised of 25%- 33% students with “IEPs” (Individual Educational Programs) or ELL (English Language Learners) students, and the rest of the class has a heterogeneous composition.  .

Monett R-1 Future Farmers of America
Tamra Sunby, Vocational Agriculture Instructor/FFA Spnsor

Each year, FFA chapters around the country celebrate National FFA Week. The week-long tradition began in 1947 when the National FFA Board of Directors designated the week of George Washington's birthday as National FFA Week in recognition of his legacy as an agriculturist and farmer. The first National FFA Week was held in 1948. Today, FFA Week always runs Saturday to Saturday and encompasses February 22nd, Washington’s birthday.

The Monett FFA Chapter will celebrate National FFA with the following theme days:

Sunday, February 16th - Attend church with Chapter President, Hayley Long
Monday, February 17th - College Day
Tuesday, February 18th - America Day
Wednesday, February 19th - Flannel Shirt, Hat, and Tractor Day
Thursday, February 20th - Blue and Gold Day, Muddiest Truck Contest
