Did you know that in Monett R-1 we have a gifted program for eligible students in grades two through eight? The purpose of the program is to provide gifted students educational opportunities that will challenge and develop their abilities in the areas of critical thinking, problem solving, research skills, and affective skills. It is important to note, however, that many bright, academically superior students would not be eligible for this program.

In keeping with national and DESE guidelines, Monett’s Gifted Program shall be reserved for those students demonstrating outstanding intellectual, creative thinking, and reasoning abilities and who are “as far from the superior student in potential as superior is from average.” A thorough screening and evaluation process includes several criteria to assure that these are the students enrolled in the Monett Gifted Program.
