ImageMessage from the District Office
Brad Hanson, Board of Education Member

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5-9). During this week, we honor our teachers for the hard work and dedication they show each and every day to the young people of our community. We are truly blessed within the Monett R-1 school community with a truly outstanding group of teachers who strive each and every day to make a difference in their students’ lives. Our teachers live out our district mission, “Student Focused…Future Driven,” each and every day in the classroom.

This Week's Building Level and Departmental Updates

Monett High School
David Williams, Assistant Principal

The MHS Friends of Rachel (F.O.R.) Club is the follow-up to the Rachel’s Challenge assembly that was held on March 3rd.    The club is for students who want to further Rachel’s positive message and was established at Monett High School immediately after the assembly. The Rachel’s Challenge presenter stayed several hours with 100 of our students and faculty members to implement strategies and to brainstorm ideas about how to make change within our school culture.  Since that first meeting, the F.O.R. Club has met each Wednesday for an hour after school. F.O.R. has been busy setting up the club structure and is beginning its first few projects. Each week we find a way to recognize a different group of people who might not otherwise get recognition.

Monett Library Services - Monett High School
Pam Schmidt, Librarian

With the end of the year rapidly approaching, the Monett High School Library is a very busy place. We have an array of research projects going on involving several different classes. Students spend a lot of time searching for the best print resources and learning where to find reliable online resources along with learning how to cite them correctly in a bibliography page.

Research on these projects can be carried out at home as well. The online databases provided at the high school come with a username and password given to students for use at home. Also available to make research and reading more convenient are E-books (both fiction and non-fiction) that students may check out on their computers from school or home.
