ImageMessage from the District Office
Mike Dawson, Assistant Superintendent

I was once told that school never really winds down for the summer; it only speeds up with more activities, exams, and ceremonies. Next Friday night, the community will gather to celebrate the Class of 2014.

I want to take a moment and congratulate you for completing this important milestone in your educational career. Throughout your K-12 learning experience, you have attended classes, written reports, created and presented information, and been quizzed and tested. Next Friday, your parents/guardians and support circle will celebrate as you walk across the stage to receive your high school diploma. For some, you will be the first to graduate in your family, and for others, it has been a long-standing expectation; however, on Friday night, you’re all the same: Monett R-1 graduates. Feelings of adoration, success, and accomplishments will captivate everyone in the weeks to follow honoring your hard work and dedication.

This Week's Building Level and Departmental Updates

Like students and teachers all over Missouri, Monett Intermediate School students have been preparing for MAP testing all year—actually, ever since kindergarten.  It is tradition at MIS to have a MAP Pep Assembly to get everyone excited about MAP—we like to think of it as a celebration of our learning.  The best part of this pep assembly are the funny skits that the teachers prepare.

Our sixth grade teachers “wrestle” the MAP by having a sock wrestling match.  This year Mrs. Blinzler was the referee, and Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Harper were the contestants.  Round one went to Mrs. Harper because she stayed focused and filled the lines and used the strategies she has learned, which helped her to succeed.  Round two went to Mrs. Davis, who was reminded about the importance of staying focused and used her strategies.

Our fifth grade Superhero team of teachers used their “super powers” to help the students remember the important test taking strategies they have been practicing all year.  The following superheroes showed up:  Ms. Bledsoe as Wonderwoman; Ms. Hilburn as Ironman/woman; Mrs. Hedgpeth as the Green Lantern; Mrs. Smith as Captain America; Mrs. Hamilton as Spiderman/woman; Ms. Kew as Storm; Mrs. Cox as Batwoman; and Mrs. Powers as Superwoman.

Seniors at SRTC are busy finalizing their post-secondary plans. It is a very rewarding time helping students finalize their plans. At SRTC, there are two scholarships available for Scott Tech students only. These are the Ozarks Techinical College and Crowder College Directors' Scholarships. This year’s recipients of the OTC scholarships were: Quinn Stillwell in Culinary Arts from Cassville and Tyler Myers in Diesel Tech from Aurora. Crowder scholarships were awarded to Amanda Munday in Graphics Design from Wheaton; Alan Salas in Auto Tech from Monett; and Dustin Dotson in Diesel Tech from Mt. Vernon.
