Student Focused...Future Driven

Message from the District Office
Dr. Brad Hanson, Superintendent

The walls are up!  If you have driven by the Monett High School or Monett Middle/Intermediate School campuses recently, you have noticed that the outline for the new facilities is beginning to take shape.  The precast concrete walls for both facilities have been set, providing us with an initial look of how these structures will appear as they connect to our current campuses.  I was amazed to see just how quickly and efficiently the crews erected the 20-40 ton wall and ceiling panels, each of which is designed to withstand an F5 tornado.  The wall and ceiling panels for both sites were put into place in just under six days!

Food Services
Janie White, OPAA! Food Service Director

Under the National School Lunch Program, school lunches must include a choice of milk, fruits and vegetables, grains and proteins, and these meals are required to meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat and portion size.

As food service professionals in the Monett School District, we are meeting all these requirements and going the extra mile to make school meals healthy and enticing for students. A few examples of things that we offer are all-you-can-eat fresh fruit and vegetable bars, student taste tests, recipe contests, and salad bars.

Opaa! is constantly looking for healthy ways to keep student favorites—like pizza and french fries—on the menu. For instance, we use whole wheat flour when making our pizza crusts. Our spaghetti and rotini pastas are made from a mixture of white and whole wheat. We serve 100 percent whole grain sandwich bread.

Monett Middle School
Sheila Gravett, MMS Guidance Counselor

On November 7th, Monett Middle School will be sending twenty-four 7th and 8th grade female students to the Expanding Your Horizons conference at Missouri University of Science & Technology in Rolla.  This one-day conference is designed to help female students discover how interesting and fun engineering, mathematics, science, and technology can be.  The Expanding Your Horizons program aids in promoting and nurturing young girls’ interest in these areas and encourages them to expand their career visions. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of Missouri S & T students, participate in hands-on workshops, and hear a guest speaker highlight exciting careers.
