October is Disability History and Awareness Month in the state of Missouri. Below are examples of some activities occurring at Monett R-1 Schools.
Mrs. Judy Seawel, Speech-Language Pathologist, teaches basic sign language to Melissa Powers’ 5th Grade class twice weekly to assist a student who is learning sign language with communication in the classroom.

Eligible Monett students in grades 5-12 participated in Fall Field Day, our own version of Special Olympics. The student athletes were assisted and cheered on by volunteer peer coaches. The events included the 100/ 50-meter dash, long jump, tennis ball throw, 200-meter relay, beanbag toss, frisbee throw, and a variety of other games. Thank you to all who watched and cheered the athletes!
