“What’s Happening in the Middle”

We are truly blessed to have such caring students at MMS!  Our annual paper chain link competition between grade levels began after Thanksgiving and ended December 12th.  This competition is actually a fundraiser to purchase presents for children of struggling families in our community.  So far we have raised almost $600 - enough to provide gifts for six students in our district!  Students will participate in Dodgeball for Heart, which benefits the American Heart Association.  This fundraiser has also raised more than $700 every year that the competition has been held at the middle school.  Our students’ monies are going to great causes, and we are proud that they want to be a positive part of those causes!
Student performances abound at Monett Middle School!  Our students will be performing for their classmates on Friday, December 16, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. in the E.E. Camp Gymnasium.  Our performances for family and friends will occur on the last week of school before Christmas break.  We ask that you attend our annual MMS/MHS choir concert at the MHS Performing Arts Center (PAC) Monday, December 19th, at 5:30 p.m.; our MMS school play Monday, December 19th, at 7:00 p.m. - tickets purchased in advance; and the MMS/MHS band concert at the PAC Tuesday, December 20th at 6:00p.m.

Monett R-1 Departmental Updates:
Mrs. Rebecca Merriman, GO CAPS Coordinator

GO CAPS Monett was recently recognized as the recipient of the "Making Learning Come Alive" award at the recent Celebration of Schools event held at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.  The event, hosted by the Southwest Center for Educational Excellence (SWC), brought together educators and school board members from forty-eight participating school districts.  The Monett program was one of eleven innovative programs nominated for the award.  We are honored to have received this distinction!
GO CAPS students are at work throughout the business community on real-world projects solving real-world problems.
Engineering and Manufacturing students are learning how to use AutoCAD to design makerspace carts for Monett Intermediate School.  This project involves both educators at the school and a local manufacturer who will be producing the makerspace carts.  Students are also collaborating with EFCO structural engineers to design a test fixture that will help provide evidence of how much wind load can put on a particular type of structural assembly without a failure.

Medicine & Health Care students’ teams have met with multiple professionals over the past weeks to launch...
