Message from:
Mr. Matt Houck, District Care Coordinator

As the Monett R-1 School District Care Coordinator, my role varies with different situations.  I work cooperatively with community-based agencies to help students and their families deal with hardships, including poverty.  I assist with developing plans of action to assist those who need help beyond the classroom and the schoolyard.  I stay in contact with food banks, health departments, mental health agencies, police departments, and Children’s Division to ensure student needs are being met.   I regularly attend meetings involving student behavior and issues at home.  I assist with plans or interventions to help the situation.  I regularly meet families in their homes to deal directly with truancy issues.

My schedule varies day-to-day as needs in the district arise.  Normally, I start my day at Central Park Elementary working in the Recovery Room until about 12:30 p.m.  Duties in the Recovery Room vary.  The room is used as a room for a student to calm down and get ready to go back to class, a place to give rewards when behavior interventions are completed, and a place for in-school suspension (ISS) to be served.  Monett Elementary uses my position similarly as mentioned above.  Most Wednesday afternoons I’m at Monett High School meeting with students who need monitoring or have issues going on in their lives.

So far this year, I currently have been on 93 home visits, with 47 related to attendance.  I’m currently at 1,159 provided services to students, staff, or community this year, with 893 related to Central Park Elementary.  I encourage any family or student in need to contact their school principal or counselor to see what assistance may be provided.
