Summer Construction Projects and Capital Improvements

Once again, many of our campuses will be busy this summer with construction projects and other capital improvements.  The Monett R-1 Board of Education approved in March a little over $1.5 million in capital improvements that will continue to improve our existing facilities and ensure they will meet the needs of our students into the future.  This project coincides with another $300,000 in HVAC improvements currently underway at MHS.  Many of these projects are coming at the end of a five-year capital improvement plan initiated in the 2012-2013 school year.
The construction theme for this summer will be mainly focused in HVAC and athletic/physical education facility improvements.  Below I will highlight the work that will go on this summer:
HVAC - As I mentioned earlier, we currently have a very large HVAC project going on at MHS.  The units being replaced are those larger units that serve the MHS commons area and gymnasium.  Because of the extreme difficulty in getting to these units (which are located above the stage area in the commons), we were hoping to save this work for the very end of the MHS HVAC replacement schedule.  Unfortunately, these units did not cooperate.  The units quit working late last fall, and it become evident that we would have to move this project at the top of the list.  Work to replace these units began last month and is scheduled for completion right before graduation.

What's Happening in the Middle

Beginning on Monday, April 24, 7th and 8th grade students will begin MAP testing.  The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) is an assessment that all students are required to take from 3rd through 8th grades.  Communication Arts and Math are tested every year for 3rd through 8th graders with Science tested at the 5th and 8th grade levels.  Students will test, but the test will be completed in a different format.
Last year students began testing in their core content classes.  That is, 7th and 8th grade students took their Communication Arts MAP test with their corresponding Communication Arts teacher, so either Mrs. Hermansen or Mrs. Crawford would be testing students in their classrooms.  Likewise, 7th and 8th grade students would take their Mathematics MAP test with their corresponding Math teacher—Mrs. Essley for 7th grade and Ms. Orr for 8th grade.  Finally, 8th grade students would take their Science MAP test with their teacherMr. Garrison Earnest.  We believe it is very important...

Monett Departmental Update
Mrs. Kristen Earnest, Head Nurse

Spring is here, and as the school year winds down, the Monett R-1 Health Department is adding a new program into the line-up:   ACHT Now! (Access Children’s Healthcare through Telehealth Now) is a school-based telehealth program operated by CoxHealth in partnership with Monett R-1.   This program is made possible through grant funding from the Missouri Foundation of Health and Children’s Miracle Network.
Telehealth is a method of providing healthcare remotely, using an Internet connection, web camera, and specialized medical equipment to connect patients with medical providers.  If your child is sick, he or she will go to the school nurse for evaluation.  If the nurse feels that your child’s illness/injury may be able to be treated through telemedicine, the parent will be contacted for consent for your child to be seen.  A Licensed Nurse Practitioner or physician will examine your child through a web camera and specialized equipment.  The parent must participate in...
