Central Park Elementary School

MAP Activities 2017 at CPE

Happy Spring!  Central Park is excited that spring has arrived and that we are able to be outside enjoying the warmer temperatures.  Our students and teachers have been working diligently all year and will be enjoying our end-of-year activities in the near future.  It is an extremely busy time as we head towards the end of the school year.

April brings our annual state assessment time.  Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) should be similar to last year.  Third and fourth grade students will be tested in the core subject areas of reading and math to check their understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards.  Students will once again be taking the MAP assessment on their electronic devices.  Students have been practicing their keyboarding skills all year, which should greatly benefit them when they take the assessment.  Central Park MAP assessment dates are scheduled for April 25th and 26th and May 2nd and 3rd

Central Park’s MAP kick-off assembly will be held next Monday.  Teachers will be competing in Survivor-like games while embedding test-taking tips for our students.  Our students are going to love what the teachers have in store for them during the assembly!  In keeping with our yearly tradition, we have decided to once again do some great brain-based line dances to get us up and moving for MAP.  Each testing morning our students and staff will meet in the gym to celebrate MAP testing by dancing together.  A special thank you to Rachel Murad and Kellen Hoover for integrating line dances into their daily...

Monett R-1 Departmental Update:
Mrs. Lauralie Powell, Technology Integration Specialist

Monett R-1 is once again offering Blended Summer School for all first through sixth grade students.  Blended Summer School is a perfect fit for those busy families who travel during the summer or have packed agendas during the summer months.  While regular summer school is offered each day Monday through Thursday throughout the month of June, Blended Summer School is only 3˝ hours once a week.

Students enrolled in the blended classes will be given assignments to complete throughout the week and will have the opportunity to communicate with their teacher via email should they be in need of assistance.  Devices will be distributed to students on the first day of summer school (May 30th) and will need to be returned on June 22nd.

Our hope this summer is to not only continue to support language arts and math instruction but to also make coding a primary focus.

Coding, in the simplest of terms, is telling a computer what you want it to do, which involves typing in step-by-step commands for the computer to follow.  Learning to code has been likened to learning a foreign language or perhaps more specifically, a family of foreign languages.  You might be wondering why coding is important?...
